Girl Scouts STEM

Did you know? Sacramento Children's Museum offers a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) program exclusively for Girl Scout Troops! During this one-hour class, Girl Scouts will dive into a STEM topic of their choice and will earn a custom SCM STEM badge upon completion of the class. This program is for Girl Scout Troops ages 5 to 14.

Program Options

Please select one of the following topics:

  • Cornstarch Chemistry: Learn how even a small recipe change can mean the difference between making slime versus bouncy balls when you use the amazing powers of chemistry. This chemistry activity promotes accurate direction-following while creating a kinesthetic representation of the material changes of chemical reactions.
  • Doodlebots: Using the engineering design process of design-build-test-redesign, make robots that walk, jitter, and dance while drawing their tracks! This is an engineering activity which relies on critical thinking, trial-and-error, and creativity.
  • Outdoor Explorers: Observe the plants and animals around SCM, note them in your field journals, and discuss the inferences and investigations available to us at the borders between wild and cultivated environments. This class is entirely observation-based, requires no previous knowledge of nature, and relies on “what do you think?” as a motivator for scientific inquiry.

A Girl Scouts STEM class can be scheduled weekday afternoons Tuesday-Friday, or any time on weekends (subject to staff availability). The class is one hour long.

  • $5/Girl Scout
