Homeschool Days

SCM's Homeschool Days is a monthly program for homeschool students and their families. Homeschool Days provides homeschool students with a fun-filled learning experience full of educational programming and museum play!

During Homeschool Days, one all-ages class is offered exclusively to Homeschool Students during the Museum's open hours. Classes are appropriate for Grades Preschool-2 and may include science, art, music, cultural, and/or literacy classes.

For the 2018 Winter/Spring session, Homeschool Days classes will be held 1-2 p.m. every fourth Thursday of the month: January 25, February 22, March 22, April 26, and May 24. Registered students and their families are welcome to play in the Museum before and/or after the class session.

Class Descriptions

Registration is open for the following classes. Registration is required and closes the Friday prior to the class date or when the class reaches capacity.

February 22: Cooking Around the World

Join us for hands-on preparation (and tasting!) of food from all around the world as we learn how to roll vegetarian sushi from Japan, and how to make samosas from India, fairy bread from Australia, and hand pressed tortillas from Mexico! Additional activities will relate to the history, geography, and culture of the countries studied.

March 22: Let's Plant!

Explore plant parts, plant growth, and plant care! We will learn about plants with literature by reading “From Seed To Plant” by Gail Gibbons and “The Tiny Seed” by Eric Carle. Children will also examine plants and make their own “greenhouse” to take home and observe the growth of bean plant through a window.
