At our Members' Earth Day Party on Thursday, April 23rd, members helped us to dedicate the Museum's new Peace Pole! As part of The World Peace Sanctuary's worldwide Peace Pole Project, we installed an 8 foot pole outside of the Museum's front doors proclaiming 'May Peace Prevail on Earth' in 8 different languages, including English, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Korean, Hindi, Arabic, and Farsi. The Museum dedicated this pole in the spirit of spreading the message of peace and in celebration of the diversity of the community we live in, as reflected in our visitors. Each child placed a local river rock into a border encircling our Peace Pole and planted a flower around the base. Don't forget to look out for it on your next visit!
We had a BLAST riding the rails (or back parking lot as the case may be) with Engineer McFarland at our Transportation Week Members-Only Night. Many of our little friends lined up over and over again and made an entire night of it! We will DEFINITELY be inviting Engineer McFarland back next year!
We were so excited to offer our members a sneak peek at our brand new exhibit, Mr. Noodles' Forest, at our Members-Only night on Thursday, June 18th! Fueled by noodle themed snacks, kids and parents alike enjoyed their explorations! Mr. Noodles' Forest features a unique sensory experience: Children can navigate through a dense and stimulating textural forest of more than 300 pool noodles suspended from above! It opened to the general public the following day, so now you can enjoy the forest every day!
Storyteller Bryan Lee of the Maidu Museum dropped by to share 'California Indian Stories' with our members in honor of Native America Day. His wonderful stories encompassing the history of Indian tribes throughout the state of California, in addition to the stories of the local Maidu People, held little ones and grown ups in thrall.
Nora Hall, an attorney with Clark Allison LLP, presented an ESTATE PLANNING 101 workshop free of charge for SCM members. The workshop provided a very informative overview of what an estate plan includes and best practice in choosing a guardian for minor children. Nora extended a discount of $200 off of her Estate Planning services to ALL SCM members through the end of January 2016.
A visit from Santa Claus is always the highlight of any holiday party, but hot chocolate provided by Java Mama in Folsom, and a wonderful performance of holiday tunes by New Star Children's Theatre's super talented performance group Super Nova, this night at the Museum was extra special!
Members joined us for an evening of stories, special treats, and best of all, a COLOR FIGHT, in celebration of the Indian tradition of Holi, festival of colors. We ended the evening by gathering outside in the back lot and chasing each other about endeavoring to dust each other front to back and from head to toe in brightly colored powders. At the end of our color fight, we all went home brighter, wetter, and wearing big, happy smiles.
