Our Mission

Our mission is to spark a passion for life-long learning. We will accomplish our mission by providing a place where children are encouraged to think for themselves, expand their problem-solving abilities through creative exploration, and exercise both their bodies and their minds.

Dear friends of SCM,

As I look back on 2023, I am immensely proud of the growth and impact of the Sacramento Children’s Museum (SCM). This year will be remembered as one where we increased accessibility, added new exhibitions and programs, and more, all to achieve our mission to inspire a lifelong love of learning through play.

In 2023, that mission reached over 80,000 guests, nearly double that of the previous year. They explored Sacramento in miniature in our updated Cityways exhibit, traversed the wilderness in the new Camp Rancho, experimented with STEM concepts in Leo’s Learning Lab, learned about measurement in our traveling Measurement Rules exhibit, got messy at Mess Fest, and so much more. New opportunities for learning and play weren’t limited to the museum, either – our mobile Van Go! program relaunched in January to bring SCM to over 30 local classrooms, and our outreach team brought educational experiences to countless community events.  It’s all part of making learning through play accessible to all children in the Sacramento region.

With the addition of new play and learning experiences came an additional effort to be accessible to all children and families. As part of this effort, 2023 saw the addition of two membership levels specially designed for foster and EBT-receiving families, a continuation of the Museums for All and Blue Star programs, and the relaunch of our partnership with the Sacramento Public Library’s Discover & Go program to provide free passes. No family should ever be priced out of learning through play!

The memories made this year as we watched our guests learn, grow and play together are priceless. We are proud to be a fun and safe space for local families. Thank you for your investment in our present and our future, and we hope you’ll learn and play with us in 2024 – there’s so much more in store!

Sincerely,

Sharon Stone Smith

Executive Director
