What is a children's museum?

Children’s museums are places where children learn through play and exploration in environments designed just for them. Reflecting their diverse communities, children’s museums create playful, interactive learning experiences. In an increasingly complex world, children’s museums provide a place where all kids can learn through play with the caring adults in their lives. Association of Children’s Museum

What time is the museum open?

Sacramento Children’s Museum is open Tuesday – Sunday from 10am to 2pm. In addition, we offer weekday member only hours from 9am to 10am.

Where is the museum located?

The Museum is located at 2701 Prospect Park Drive #120 off of the HWY 50 in Rancho Cordova, California. Please note that Prospect Park Drive is a loop, so if you are coming from Sunrise Blvd., please take the second Prospect Park Drive on White Rock Road.

How much does it cost to enter the museum?

General Admission is $8.50 per person for everyone one (1) to fifty-nine (59) years old. Sixty (60) and over and members of the military are $6.00.

Is there always a group at the museum?

Field trips will not co-mingle with the general public at the museum. SCM is opening a field trip center specifically for groups.

Does the museum have any free days?

Currently, the Museum participates in the Sacramento Area Museums’ (SAM) Annual Museum Day, which typically takes place in February of each year. Please check our calendar for current free and discounted days. You also can “check out” a membership from 3 branches of the Roseville Library or the Discover & Go program. Every time you check it out, you receive 4 free admissions to SCM.

Do you allow unaccompanied adults in the museum?

To create a safe environment for our all of our tiny visitors, we do not allow unaccompanied adults into the museum.

Is the museum a daycare facility?

No. Children must be accompanied by an adult guardian to enter the museum. Parents: To keep the museum a safe space, please participate with your child(ren) and only use technology such as phones, iPads, or computers only in the case of an emergency.

Why are all museum members named?

Every membership in the museum identifies not only the adult, but also the child listed on the account; therefore, each family member is named. If you choose to apply a mid-term upgrade of your family’s membership, no problem! The cost of the membership upgrade is the difference between each membership level. Please note: If you choose to upgrade your membership or add a caregiver to your account, the date of the membership does not change.

Why do adults have to pay to go into the museum?

As this is a family-friendly facility, we expect not only children to play, but the adults too!

Why do the plugs in the museum not have child-safe covers?

All of the plugs in the museum are child-safe and are built to only work when a plug is inserted into it.
