
Field Trip Basics
Field Trips to SCM are self-guided trips throughout the museum with your chaperones and children! SCM Play Facilitators will go over the general information for your visit and your students will be invited to play. Our field trips are best for students in Kindergarten – 1st grade.
All field trips include:
- 90 minutes of free exploration on the museum floor. All field trips start in Leo’s Learning Lab.
- Lunch room is available upon request.
- A ticket for each student to visit SCM at a future date.
Group Visit Criteria
- Play Around the World: Currently on Leo’s Learning Lab! It’s best suited for ages 4-6.
- Potter the Otter | August 19th-February 8th: All Field Trips will be on Leo’s Learning Lab only for Preschool-Kindergarten.
- Field trips are recommended for preschool-1st grade. For any mixed grades or
accommodations, please email sarah@sackids.org for more information. - For 2nd grade, check out our Van Go program.

- We recommend wearing school shirts or name tags so staff can easily identify

How to Book
Fill out our Group Visit Request form. We will get in touch with you with any questions or invoices within 3-4 days.
Cost
- $350 for 1 classroom up to 30 students
- $650 for 2 classrooms up to 60 students
- $10 for any additional adults
- Included in the cost of admission:
- 1-2 classes
- All teachers and Aids with a valid school ID
- 6 parent chaperones for 1 class or 12 for 2 classes
- Please note we require a 1:5 adult-child ratio
- Payment is required 30 days after the invoice has been sent to secure your reservation.
- Payments can be mailed before the visit, paid over the phone, or collected on the date of the school visit.
- We do not offer any Title I discounts at this time.
Dates & Times
- Tuesday—Up to 2 classes (or 60 students)
- 9:30-11 AM
- Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday—Up to 1 class (or 30 students)
- 9:30-11 AM
- Lunch—Your group will only have 1 hour and 30 minutes of play. Lunch or snack time will be on your own outside of the museum.

Post-Visit Reflection
Thank you again for visiting us at the museum! We hope you all had fun exploring the
different exhibits. Below, you can access a post-visit reflection activity where students
can draw and/or write about their visit to the museum. It can be used in conjunction with
the California Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts & Literacy.
Frequently Asked Questions
No, field trips are separate from your membership.
Only siblings under 12 months are allowed on field trips. Any additional siblings are not allowed due to insurance contracts with schools.
If siblings over 12 months are brought in, then the parent and sibling(s) will be considered general public and not part of the field trip. This means they will need to wait on the other side of the museum and cannot join in the scheduled lunch (if applicable).
Yes, only 2 classes are allowed per visit to accommodate our general admission and building safety requirements. Visits with 2 classes can only be scheduled on Tuesdays to accommodate for the larger field trip size.
No, students are not permitted to play during the scheduled lunch break. The field trip ends at 11:30 (or 2 PM), and that is the scheduled departure time.
No, schools are not allowed to use Golden tickets in place of payment for a field trip. Golden Tickets are given to students to come back to the museum with their respective families.
Additionally, field trip admission is cheaper than general admission due to the group discount rate, whereas the golden tickets are worth $10. So, you would lose money from the experience.
